Looking for something sweet that is super easy to make, feeds a crowd and is delicious? Well, I found it for you. As you can tell I am pretty much obsessed with Sarah Carey’s videos from Martha Stewart Everyday Living. She is just so cute and I love her sense of humor. She is just a natural in front of the camera and I cannot wait to share her videos with my classes and discuss them. It is going to add so much to their cooking experience that I cannot give them in 45 minutes. But, there is a big downside. These teens are going to want to eat the food!!! I am sharing these bars with my classes on Friday as a first week treat. Really I’m using it as a bribe to keep them from changing classes. Oh, who am I kidding? I really should be preparing something disgusting because I have 33 students in all four of my classes. It is going to next to impossible to teach this many in a lab, but hopefully they will be all little angels and it will be a breeze. I will keep you posted.

Baby Back Ribs oven roasted
I cannot think of many meats that I like better than some tender messy ribs. You know the ones where the meat just falls off the bone. I’ll be the first to say that I have not had good luck with ribs until I watched this how-to video with Sarah Carey. I just love this girl. You can bet that I’m going use her expertise in my classroom this year. What a great resource for my students!! Anyway back to these ribs. They are fabulous!!! It’s really the cooking method that makes them so good. Add whatever rub and sauce that is your favorite. Personally I really liked the one here. I did think that the amount of salt was way too much so I reduced it. The Cajun seasoning first ingredient is salt. This is easy, easy! I mean anyone can do this!!! There is one step that cannot be eliminated and that is to remove the membrane. You will have the worst ribs ever if you fail to do this small step. Turn the ribs to the bony side. Take a knife and lift a small bit of the membrane. Holding the membrane with a piece of paper towel pull the membrane as if you were removing cellophane tape from the meat. You might get lucky and get it in one big piece, but that is not likely. With that one step and low heat you will have the most tender ribs ever!

Caprese Salad on a Toothpick
Love this recipe!!! My neighbor Kim had these had a party and I must have eaten 12 without even thinking. They are so good. There is nothing better than finding a great recipe that takes less than 10 minutes to put together and is healthy. I’ve served these at least six times this summer and everyone is so amazed. You will be,too. Just keep this idea in your back pocket for your next get together. It is a hit for sure. Hope your summer is going well. My vacation time is coming to an end as of July 31!
Pizza Dough from Scratch
One of the last demonstrations that I did for my classes this year was homemade pizza dough. It is really easy to make and my students were in awe! I use my Kitchen Aid mixer with the dough hook, but the dough can be made in a food processor or using the dough cycle on a bread machine. All three work well. You can also make the dough by hand, but it will take a little more work.

Sausage Balls Made with Buttermilk
I love sausage balls for breakfast. When Syble told be about this recipe that she got from her sister Sue I knew that I had to try it. It’s another easy one that anyone can do. Make and freeze so you can pull them out anytime. My freezer is my friend for so many baked goods. Let it do some work for you. You’ll be that much more organized in the morning when it is crunch time to get out of the door.
Ham, Pepper, and Potato Frittata
Now just imagine what happens when you say this word Frittata to a roomful of high school students. They think it is hilarious. I love it! This was a staple at my house even before I knew what a Frittata was. If you have eggs you can do this. This is your go to meal when you have about thirty minutes to get a meal on the table and you don’t want another sandwich or a bowl of cereal. If you have leftover pan roasted potatoes or hash browns it will be even faster to put together.

Pan Roasted Potatoes
I have been preparing all types of vegetables this way forever. For example, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers, grape tomatoes are just a few that have hit my skillet. It is so easy to do and if you are in a hurry it is quick as a wink. I love potatoes any way they are prepared, but I love this one in particular because it reminds me so much of homemade fries without the fat. We did these in class and they were a huge hit with everyone. And yes they did let their imaginations go wild and served them in ways that I would dare not ( bacon and cheddar cheese) ! Reminder: their metabolism is running at the high-octane level and mine well, it is a tad slower.
The Easiest Fried Rice EVER!
If you are in a big hurry to cook up something that is really tasty, I bet you have all of these ingredients in your kitchen! My classes are making this dish and it is the biggest hit. I’m always amazed at the simplest of dishes that can make you happy. This is one of them, so get ready for some big smiles coming your way.
If you are like me sometimes you think that more is better when it come to a recipe. But I am learning that really simplicity is the winner. When I was thinking through what to prepare for the rest of the year back in January this dish came to mind. It was a winner with last year’s crowd , but it was more time-consuming for a forty-five minute class. So I threw out something super simple and am pleasantly surprised at the results.

Cinnamon Sugar Snackers
This is a great idea to get your kids in the kitchen. I made these last week for my high school students and they loved them! It is something that can be thrown together in a matter of minutes and the next thing you know you are enjoying them with a cup of Joe! It makes about 30 at about 80 calories each with is not too bad. So if you were like me with some canned biscuits hanging around in the refrigerator these are winners.

One Skillet Cheesy Beef and Macaroni
This recipe is nothing fancy, but it will be one that your family will ask for time and time again. You know the one that makes your husband smile when he finds out what’s for dinner or when half your son’s baseball team shows up at your house and they are all starving! It’s quick, easy, and above all cheesy good! Again, I am loving Katie Workman’s Cookbook The Mom 100 Cookbook. This is one of Katie’s recipes that I have made many times. It is so good and it will be a favorite of yours once you put it on your dinner table.
