Gourmet Jalapeno Cheeseburger

Are you ready for a burger that will knock your socks off?  I have just the one for you.  It has been in my repertoire for about four years and I am just here to tell you that it is everything that you want in a burger.  It is juicy and  flavorful. The kind that you might want to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It is one to write home about.  Oh, my gosh the spicy sauce that you see dripping down the side of the burger is to die for.  You will want to make it for more that just these burgers or just take a spoonful and savor it!  It is that good.  The burgers and the sauce go together.  Don’t make one without the other or you will be disappointed.  We don’t want that.

This recipe forces you to do some prep ahead of time.  I love that because you are free the rest of the day without the  worry of preparing dinner.  Also I love spicy foods and this allows you to kick it up if you want to.  Of course for those of you that can’t take the heat you can adjust it.  And it has a glaze to brush on as the burgers are grilled that is made with brown sugar, coffee and other good stuff.

The recipe came from here.  They  added bacon and grilled onions, but I personally don’t feel they are needed.  When I first tried the recipe I added both and they are good, but I think it takes away from the great burger flavor.

So here you go a great burger for the Memorial Day Weekend!

Burgers ready to grill.

Brushing on the glaze.

Jalapeno Cheeseburgers  from here

Make the burgers and the sauce the day before or the morning before grilling.  If you are unable to do that at least give them 2 hours in the refrigerator.

Spicy Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup shopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoons minced seeded jalapeno chile ( I used the seeds)
  •  1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Whisk all ingredients in medium bowl to blend.  Season with salt and pepper.

Burgers

  • 2 pounds of ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped about 1 1/4 cups
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped seeded jalapeno chile ( I left seeds and added a Serrano chili)  I know I like the heat!
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Gently mix all ingredients together and form into 8 patties.  Place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before grilling or up to 24 hours.  Grill according to your taste.  We use medium heat on the grill and grill for about 4 minutes on each side.  When placing on the grill brush with the following glaze and brush again when they are turned.  Delicious!

Worcestershire-Coffee Glaze

  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee crystals
  • 2 teaspoons (packed) brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter

Stir all ingredients except for butter in a small saucepan until coffee is dissolved. Remove from heat.  Whisk in butter.

Toast buns on the grill.  I love the 100 calorie whole wheat buns made by Arnold.  To keep the buns crispy I put the sauce on the lettuce.

Enjoy,

I must admit, cheese burgers are my weakness! This looks so good, I have recently tried spicy foods and found that I actually like them, to an extent. This is interesting and something more than just a plain cheese burger.
