dont use a wide stockpot. There’s too much surface area and the rice will get stuck to the bottom.

I have made a version of this since I learned to cook–but I’ve never thought to add soy sauce and make it fried rice. I’ve always thought if it as non-chicken livered dirty rice! 😉 Next time I make it, I will use soy sauce and maybe some broccoli! That may have to be tomorrow! Yummy!
